Bosch Tool Chest for Bluebeam facilitates accurate communication and design

H+W Engineering, Inc. (H+W) delivers value to clients through well thought out and efficient designs. Within the company’s Technology Design services, the team plans complex systems, including telecommunications, audio visual, security, and fire alarm systems. These services are tailored to support the specific needs of valued clients with innovative and scalable solutions that enhance the operations of facilities by adhering to industry best practices and standards. The company’s collaborative approach played a central role in a recent project that brought together teams from Bosch and H+W to design a full coverage video system for a new building.
Collaboration using the Bosch Tool Chest for Bluebeam
Within the six steps of a typical construction project, most of the technology systems design and planning occurs in the Team and Delivery Selection phase, where project owners determine the best partners and delivery method for the project needs. In this phase, the H+W and Bosch team collaborated using the Bosch Tool Chest for Bluebeam to add cameras to the PDF floor plan of the new building, indicating the field of view angle and coverage. The Bosch team provided input on camera models that would provide the best value while delivering the desired coverage and image quality in indoor and outdoor areas. The team ensured the necessary pixels on target would be achieved for the level of detail requested by the project owner.

Following an initial review of the floor plan and coverage areas with the project owner and architect, the stakeholders chose to move forward with a layout that would minimize video system blind spots on the property and within the building. The team was able to quickly adjust the floor plan using the Bosch Tool Chest for Bluebeam to add more cameras to the site. The collaboration tool assists engineers to easily respond to customers’ requested design changes on a project.
“We offer the Bosch Tool Chest for Bluebeam to support architects, consultants, and engineers as they work on projects that include Bosch cameras in the specification,” said Chris Hills, ACE Program Manager – North America, for Bosch. “It is one of many resources we provide to aid this community with designing video systems for any industry, regardless of project size.”
Ensuring customer satisfaction

Leveraging the Bosch team’s camera knowledge and H+W’s expertise in Bluebeam and CAD resulted in a fluid and seamless process. Moving into the Design phase, H+W imported the modified floor plan into CAD to complete the cones of camera coverage. Starting in Bluebeam reduced the amount of work needed to finalize the design in CAD. Overall, the process helped to improve the satisfaction of the customer and reduce the number of change orders after system installation.
“We go the extra mile for clients at H+W,” said Kyle Kerstetter, Technology Manager, for H+W Engineering, Inc. “We customized the Bluebeam output in CAD to take the design one step further. This process added value for the owner and architect, providing a clarity of camera coverage and giving them better awareness and understanding of what we recommended for the project. It was a great process, and the Bosch Tool Chest for Bluebeam was awesome.”
“In the end, the owner is getting exactly what they want,” continued Kerstetter. The finished video system design ensures no blind spots. Even when trees will obscure the view of outdoor cameras mounted at the first level, cameras capturing a birds-eye view of the area will provide adequate coverage.
