Video Analytics Drives Flexible Public View Monitor Solution for Retail Stores

One of the most widely recognized brands in the convenience retailing industry recently sought a more flexible solution for public view monitors in hundreds of its store locations across Canada. The company’s loss prevention manager required the ability to display video at front entrances showing the camera zooming in on people entering the store. The goal of the solution is to increase awareness of the video surveillance system among shoppers to reduce shrink.

The Bosch team worked closely with the integrator to create and test a solution using a custom script for the built-in video analytics offered by the FLEXIDOME IP 4000i cameras. With the solution, the video analytics triggers the camera to digitally zoom in to capture detailed images of each person as they enter the store. After a person moves out of the field of view of the camera, it digitally zooms out to show the full field of view again.

In standard public view monitor solutions, the camera is embedded within the monitor. Decoupling the two enables the camera to be mounted in the best location to capture detailed images of persons entering the store. The monitor can remain at the front of the store where it is highly visible to patrons.
