City surveillance helps control tourist traffic, keeping people safe in San Marino Republic

fortress in San Marino Republic

San Marino, a small mountainous country nestled in north-central Italy, is known for its well-preserved historic architecture and the distinction of being one of the oldest republics in the world. Home to approximately 35,000 people, its Mediterranean climate, lush green hills, and towering walls draws more than three million visitors every year. The public works organization, Azienda Autonoma di Stato per i Servizi Pubblici, in San Marino, plays an important role in providing residents with essential public services and ensuring public safety, particularly with tourism growth.

Minimize vandalism and improve public safety

Given the significant role of tourism in the Republic's economy, there is a specific emphasis on monitoring tourist flows to guarantee the safety of all visitors. Additionally, there is a concerted effort to address inquiries related to video surveillance and extend coverage from roadways to the main public squares to minimize vandalism. Azienda Autonoma di Stato per i Servizi Pubblici worked with security and safety solution specialist Cediss to design an integrated surveillance solution.

Comprehensive video surveillance system ensures safety and security

San Marino had already been using Bosch cameras throughout the city to monitor suspicious activity and prevent crime. City officials considered Cediss their technical partner for the solution design, and they believed that Bosch’s solid and innovative presence was crucial for the successful installation of the products.

The new surveillance system uses FLEXIDOME 3000i and 8000i cameras, DINION bullets, and multi imagers. Cediss deployed the cameras based on specific installation needs. Multi imagers were placed in sensitive public squares, while dome cameras were strategically installed in and around government buildings, state borders, and roadways. The primary goal was to cover sensitive regions, protect the public square from vandalism, and maintain control over the road system for tourist traffic flow. Additionally, they recommended an LPR (license plate reader) and a license plate system that integrated with Bosch cameras to ensure comprehensive coverage and effective surveillance. Currently, there are approximately 500 active cameras, increasing annually.

When selecting a partner reliability is a crucial factor for us. We need to ensure security and safety when designing a solution, and Bosch’s reputation for reliability and commitment to quality align perfectly with our requirements.
